To prevent further spread of infection/disease,
the Preble
County General Health District provides surveillance, assessment,
counseling,
and a contact notification system to intervene in the chain of
infection. The success of this program is evidenced
by the
low incidence of communicable and vaccine preventable disease in the
county. In cooperation with the Ohio State Extension Services,
communicable disease prevention classes were offered to all county
early
childhood teachers, home care providers, foster parents, agency and day
care
staff, and others providing care or supervision to young children.
School nurses take an active role in educating the
students
and school personnel of specific health issues. School districts
in
Head Lice are considered a public health nuisance, not a public health threat. Few diseases cause more frustration for parents and their children. Health District nurses work closely with county school nurses to keep the incidence low in the community. We also contract to do lice screening in the Eaton and National Trail schools.
